The Woman Behind The Wandrist

PAMELA
SCHEIN Murphy

Born and raised in New York City, Pamela Schein Murphy didn’t start traveling until she was in her thirties, but once she started, she found she couldn’t stop. The newfound connection with exploration and discovery kindled a profound and enduring passion, fundamentally shaping her perception of both herself and the world around her.

Drawn to the excitement and fast pace of the media world, Murphy pursued literature, psychology and women’s studies at the University of Rhode Island and later earned her Master’s Degree in Magazine Journalism from New York University. Working her way through the ranks of print media, she worked at some of the publishing world’s biggest women’s magazines, such as Fitness, Mirabella, Elle, and Glamour.

After successfully climbing the masthead, Murphy created her first independent venture, a  lifestyle magazine called Madison. For readers with an appreciation of the arts, culture, photography, and architecture, the magazine covered travel, food, fashion, commerce, and entertainment. She went on to add Film Producer (with actor Ed Burns) and Marketing Director (of her husband, Chef Marc Murphy’s restaurant group) to her resume and also ran The R.E.S.T. Initiative, an organization that brought massage therapies into chemotherapy treatment rooms, which she started after completing her own battle with breast cancer.

She went on to create the online magazine, The Select 7, a platform imagined from years of travel, research, recommendations, and list-keeping. Her travels became a source of inspiration for this venture, enriching the content with firsthand experiences from various corners of the world.

Murphy's journey, as both an editor and a traveler, drew a clear path to the travel industry. Her ambition extended beyond personal travel; it was the aspiration to to curate and share her discoveries from the road, to create bespoke, well-crafted, and profoundly personal for her clients, making her an ideal fit for the role of Travel Designer.

When not en route to favorite and far-flung destinations, Murphy resides in New York City with her husband and their two children. Her travel philosophy is refreshingly straightforward: "I will travel for food, Taylor Swift, and the perfect barefoot chic, totally luxe, under-the-radar hotel. I believe that every trip should transform you completely, leaving you with an incredibly authentic and meaningful experience every single time.”
